New Wave

New Wave

FBC Center: Windy Reef – St. Martin

Favourite Board: New Wave 81

Why?  The New Wave 81 planes super early and has a very wide sail range. The tail design is very nice for on and side-on conditions, whilst the overall shape is quite boxy so the board is nervous and radical in the bottom turns. The harmoniously dispatched volume gives an accessible, predictable and comfortable feeling while riding. This board is great for jumping on anything that moves, and even a lot of fun on flat water and chops ! Finally, the top accessories (especially the pads), and a heavy duty fin that isn't scared to kiss the reef once in while are the icing on the cake!

Favourite Move: Rodeo Flip

Rodeo Flip

Best Wind: 14 - 20 knots

Ideal Sail: Mainly 5.3 Ice 2008, but as well 4.7 and 5.7 - 14 to 20 knots. You can sail easily with sails from 4.0 up to 5.9 without any worries, so a huge range of wind conditions for a single board that makes it all.

Trim Tips: ‘Position the straps fully outside and on the back (especially for lighter riders). This allows a more aggressive carving in side/on conditions, whether riding backside or frontside and guarantees the tightest snap turns on the face of the wave.  Put the fin as well far back for the same reasons (one could even use a smaller fin). Slide the mastfoot a bit further forward than the middle for more length of rail biting the water in your turns (bottoms)
