Kos is the island that gave the world Hippocrates, the Father of medicine. The third largest of the Dodecanese Islands after Rhodes and Karpathos, it is long (about 45km) and narrow in shape, mostly flat with two low mountains that run along its southern coast. It is simple to navigate as there is one main road that runs the length of the Island.
The natural beauty of Kos and its landscape is fantastic for hiking and mountain biking. The relatively flat surface of the island has made the bicycle an incredibly popular form of transportation and a fantastic way of discovering the hidden beauties of Kos, with dedicated cycle lanes running all over the island.
FBC Kos Big Blue Surf Center is situated on the beach in front of the Oceanis Beach Resort on the north east coast of Kos Island. This area is called Psalidi and it is well known for windsurfing and the Meltemi, the strong north/northwest wind which is blowing side/side off from the left, almost every day during the summer season. FBC Kos is perfectly positioned facing the coast of Turkey which is only 15 km off of the center, although we would not recommend you attempt the crossing! This creates a funnel effect on the Meltemi as it is squeezed between the two coastlines giving a stronger localized wind effect. It is 6km into the City from the center, and 25km to the airport.
Kos Island really has something for everyone, not only windsurfing! It is swept by magnificent sandy beaches and has some of the most interesting archeological sites in the Mediterranean. Culture vultures love Kos as it is rich in history and monuments and archeological digs continue all over the Island. Home of the Asklepion, the hospital of Hippocrates, which was built on a hill surrounded by Cypress trees overlooking the beautiful Aegean even those who are not into stones will be taken away by the views and the energy of the place.

The city is alive day and night with shops, tavernas, bars and a new modern Marina. The famous Bar Street can keep you partying into sunrise, or for a more relaxing night take a trip to the local Thermal Springs where you can bathe in healing volcanic waters under the stars. Horseriding, Go Karts, Water Parks, Island Hopping, Sailing its all here the only question is will you have enough time off of the water to fit it all in?!!
