FBC St. Martin

Written by

Saint Martin is a glorious little island of low rolling hills, amazing beaches and warm seas located in the northeast Caribbean Sea. The island is the smallest bi-national territory on Earth, 87 km² divided in two parts: Up north the French side, down south the Dutch side . The Dutch Sint Maarten is dominated by duty-free shopping, casinos, cruiseship tourism and great night life. The French Saint Martin emphasizes on nature, comfort, elegance, luxury, pristine beaches and the finest gourmet cuisine. FBC St. Martin is situated on the French side to the east of the island in the heart of a peaceful and protected natural reserve where mangroves, turquoise water and white sand mix in total harmony (Baie du Galion -  Coconut Grove). Compared to the lively nearby Orient Bay there are no jet skis or motor boats here. The spot is a classic tropical paradise, and has been voted the best beach on the island. The eastern coast of St. Martin is exposed to almost constant trade winds.

The sea is always warm (around 27 degrees all year) and the water idyllically clear. All this water means endless water sports and water based activities can be experienced all around the island. Land sports feature highly too, with all terrain off-road guided tours, horse riding, tennis, golf and dedicated mountain bike trails. Finally – St. Martin is also renowned for fine cuisine. Whether dining in gourmet restaurants or the BBQ roadside shacks or “Lolos” - you will find something to satisfy all palates and wallets! J

St. Martin is a fascinating melting pot of people and influences from over 70 different nations – a truly Cosmopolitan atmosphere with a Caribbean twist! It is like nowhere you have ever been before – and you will never go anywhere like it again!

TRIP TIPS:

Fort St. Louis – Built in 1767 to protect from foreign invasion, the climb to the summit provides panoramic views of the island.

Marigot Market – Wednesdays and Saturdays – open air market with homegrown produce, tropical fruits, spices and fresh fish.

Grand Case – Famous for the small, pastel coloured wood houses. Here you find the finest cuisine of the island. Try Café Calmos for relaxed beach dining.

Paradise Peak – Spectacular views to the island and tropical forests below – at 414 m this is the highest point on the island.

Butterfly Farm (Le Galion) – Hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies in beautiful landscaped gardens.

Loterie Farm – Take an eco-hike and a tree top tour along ropes from tree to tree.

Catamaran Sailing - Eagles tours offers eco-friendly "around the island tours" - great opportunity to explore the whole island.

SUP & SURF ST. MARTIN

Written by

Spot

Thanks to the outer reef, surfing & SUP feature VERY highly here too, and Jean Seb Lavocat the owner of the center, discoverer of the spot and an extreme true waterman of international level, is dedicated to the younger generation. He has formed a surfing association (SMX Waterboys and Watergirls) and is a creator of young surf champions all over the Caribbean. He has built a special 23m² catamaran platform to transport surfers, friends and photographers out to the reef to enjoy the show in comfort and style.

The surf spot is situated 400m from the shore, where waves roll over the relatively deep reef. A large channel were the waves don’t break offers the possibility to easily reach the line up (peak). FBC St. Martin has ideal conditions for complete beginners as well as for the most advanced and addicted of surfers!

Should that not be enough, FBC St Martin gives you everything to become a true water addict by giving you the opportunity to try, on the flat and then in the waves, a true Hawaiian Canoe, for more shared adrenaline and tons of fun !

St. Martin is the perfect all round spot for families, kids, windsurfers, surfers; SUPers and kiters of all levels. It is very rare indeed on this planet that so many can be satisfied at the same time – but trust us – St. Martin does it all!

Windsurfing St. Martin

Written by

Spot

The eastern coast of St. Martin is exposed to almost constant trade winds which blow side onshore from the left December to April (14-25 knots) and side onshore from the right June to September (12–20 knots). May is the least windy month. From the end of June to the end of October is a cyclonic period and the place can really rock at this time! September, October and November are well known for the quality of the waves and surf.

The sailing area is a one kilometer wide sandy lagoon with some standing areas, protected by an outer reef about 400m from the shore. The reef offers great wave riding conditions with breaking waves between 1 and 3m all year long– superb ! The water in the lagoon is warm, flat and safe – a perfect windsurfing learning environment as well as fantastic freeride and freestyle conditions.

Should that not be enough, FBC St Martin gives you everything to become a true water addict by giving you the opportunity to try, on the flat and then in the waves, a true Hawaiian Canoe, for more shared adrenaline and tons of fun !

St. Martin is the perfect all round spot for families, kids, windsurfers, surfers, SUPers and kiters of all levels. It is very rare indeed on this planet that so many can be satisfied at the same time – but trust us – St. Martin does it all! As for the colours, they are simply surreal and very addictive!

Instruction

FBC St. Martin is proud to offer windsurfing instruction by fully qualified team members. The equipment on offer, the conditions, and the transport available if necessary means that you will always be taught in optimum learning conditions for your level and aspirations.

FBC St. Martin really has something to offer all levels of windsurfing. The wind blows side onshore from the left or right depending on the time of year. The wind is quite strong in the morning, may drop between 12.00 and 15.00 giving a chance for lunch and the entry level lessons, and then picks up again and peaks right through until sunset. The water in the lagoon is warm, flat and safe – a perfect learning environment for beginners as well as fantastic freeride and freestyle conditions for intermediates to advanced. The reef offers superb wave riding opportunities with breaking waves between 1-3m and the owner Jean Seb will take great pleasure in teaching you in the waves.

If you really are a very advanced rider, you might enjoy the privilege of a guided session with private lesson by Jean seb himself on one of the amazing yet very radical wave spots nearby such as the infamous Wilderness (your level will be checked beforehand !)

CERTIFICATIONS OFFERED: Windsurfing – FFV (Fédération Francaise de Voile)
